What a day!

Today I got to see some of the fruits of my labor. It was truly an honor to meet Kirin and his grandmother. Kirin is one of our current card launch recipients. He's 2 and has cancer. He just finished his 8th round of chemo, his tumor shrunk enough for surgery, and he will be ready for transplant in January.

As I was sitting there listening to his Grandma, I couldn't help but thank God for this experience. My goal for OSA is to make a difference in the lives of these children. I always knew that a card could encourage and uplift their spirits, but his grandmother was telling me how the generosity and love of complete strangers has literally changed her life.

She told me that one woman who read their caringbridge page sent Kirin a box of gifts to open every day during the month of December. How cool is that????? She said they were $1 gifts and Kirin couldn't be happier! He looks forward to opening his gift EVERY DAY! I love it! She also told me about a woman who stopped making hand-made cards when tragedy hit her life. When she found out Kirin had cancer...she started making them again and sends him 1 a week.

My favorite part of today was when Windy (Grandma) told me about a little girl going through Chemo with Kirin. She's 11 yrs. old and has a 5-6% chance of living. Every time she would go through a round of chemo, she would stop talking and not want to be around anyone. Since Kirin started coming to the hospital for treatments...this little girl has convinced the Dr's to give her chemo at night while she sleeps, so she can play with Kirin during the day. All I could say was..."WOW"! It amazes me how even Kirin, a 2 yr old, can make the difference in another child's life.

Kirin received a BEAUTIFUL blanket today. A local Mom was given a bunch of yarn from her spouse right before they passed away from cancer. She decided to give back by blessing a child who was struggling with cancer. (Thank you Rowan! I found out today that Kirin LOVES blankets!)

That's it for now! I hope to blog more in 2011. Just gotta make the time! Thanks for following me!
